• ASBMR Statement on White House Executive Order on Immigration and Visas

    1 February 2017

The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) calls on US President Donald Trump to rescind his executive order on immigration and visas. We are deeply concerned by this executive order and oppose any efforts that create barriers to the free exchange of scientific information.

We are concerned about how this order will affect our members and their ability to participate in scientific activities around the world, including the ASBMR 2017 Annual Meeting. Implementation of this policy will compromise the United States’ ability to attract international scientific talent and maintain scientific and economic leadership. This action will discourage many of the best and brightest international students, scholars and scientists from studying, working and attending academic and scientific conferences,

We hope the President rescinds this order and capitalizes on our nation’s unrivaled scientific and technological capacity to bolster national security, build economic strength and advance the well-being of individuals in our country and across the globe.

In the meantime, we will continue to monitor this important issue and work in collaboration with other medical and scientific organizations to overturn this order. We will keep you informed of developments.

    Sincerely,

    Jane A. Cauley, Dr. PH
    President
