ASBMR Nominations

Want to get more involved in ASBMR? Then consider nominating yourself or a colleague for one or more ASBMR leadership positions! The Nominating Committee begins its deliberations in April for appointments to ASBMR Committees and in preparation of the 2009 electoral ballot for Officers and Council.

The Nominating Committee is seeking to identify the best candidates to lead our organization, the premier society in the bone and mineral research field. As a member, you have knowledge of the field and the needs of our colleagues and may know of individuals you believe would be good leaders for the Society. We need your help in identifying these individuals for the coming year’s Council election and Committee appointments. Please consider nominating these individuals, or yourself, for the ASBMR leadership.

Officers and Council
The Nominating Committee will recommend to the Council nominees for the 2009 ASBMR Ballot for ASBMR President-Elect and three Councilor positions. The terms of these elected positions will begin in September 2009. The roles and responsibilities of ASBMR Officers can be found at www.asbmr.org/about/council/index.cfm.

Committees
In the fall of 2008, new positions will become available on the following committees:

  • Advocacy (four positions)
  • Ancillary Program (one position)
  • Ethics Advisory (three positions)
  • Membership Development (two positions)
  • Professional Practice (three positions)
  • Publications (three positions)
  • Science Policy (three positions: Chair, one committee member and one young investigator member)
  • Women in Bone and Mineral Research (six positions: Chair and five committee members)

All Committee members serve three-year terms. The charges for these committees and a listing of the current members of these committees can be found at www.asbmr.org/about/committees.cfm.

The ASBMR strives for diversity on Council and Committees in members’ specialties; geographic locations; MDs and PhDs; academic, clinical practice and industry affiliation; gender and age. We encourage international members to nominate others or self-nominate.

Please Note: The ASBMR always receives more nominations than there are positions in which to serve. If you are not selected the first year of nomination, please persist in future years. The ASBMR values your willingness to serve and persistence does pay off.
