The role of Langerhans cells in the bone resorption that is associated with chronic infections and inflammatory diseases is unclear. These authors used a model involving inflammation-driven alveolar bone loss caused by to infection to show that in vivo ablation of Langerhans cells produced enhanced bone loss.
