    ASBMR Call for 2012 Leadership Nominations — Deadline March 21, 2012

    Effective leadership of the ASBMR is critical for the future of the bone field. Please consider nominating yourself or another ASBMR member to fill one or more of the leadership opportunities. The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer-Elect and Councilors (three positions) to go on the ballot in the fall of 2012, with terms beginning in the fall of 2013.

    JBMR Announces First “Video Abstract”

    The JBMR is pleased to announce the first JBMR “video abstract,” an author-created video summary of an article selected by Editor-in-Chief Thomas L. Clemens, Ph.D. The first JBMR video abstract is now available on the ASBMR web site. The featured paper is "Proteoglycan 4: A dynamic regulator of skeletogenesis and parathyroid hormone skeletal anabolism,” by Chad Novince and colleagues. The video summary is presented by co-author Laurie K. McCauley, D.D.S., Ph.D.

    Creation of the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS) Announced

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has issued an amendment to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Statement of Organization. The amendment was passed to establish the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS), to abolish the National Center for Research Review (NCRR), and to establish organizational components within the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) and the NIH Office of the Director (OD).     Dr. Steven Goldring Named as New Chair

    Steven R. Goldring, M.D., has been named the first Richard L. Menschel Research Chair at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). In addition to providing leadership for the HSS Research Division, Dr. Goldring’s research objective is to translate basic research into new therapies for people with mobility disorders, with a focus on expanding the Hospital’s clinical registries and advancing its Osteoarthritis Initiative.
