    ASBMR Nominations

Want to get more involved in ASBMR? Then please consider nominating yourself or encouraging your ASBMR colleagues to nominate themselves for one or more ASBMR leadership positions!

The Nominating Committee is seeking to identify the best candidates to lead our organization. As a member, you have knowledge of the field and the needs of our colleagues and may know of individuals you believe would be good leaders for the Society. We need your help in identifying these individuals for the coming year’s Council election and Committee appointments. Please consider nominating these individuals, or yourself, for the ASBMR leadership.

    Officers and Council
The Nominating Committee will recommend to the Council nominees for the 2009 ASBMR Ballot for ASBMR President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer-Elect and three Councilor positions. The terms of these elected positions will begin on October 12, 2010, and end approximately three years later, at the close of the Annual Meeting in 2013. The roles and responsibilities of ASBMR Officers can be found at www.asbmr.org/about/council/index.cfm.

In the fall of 2009, new positions will become available on the following committees:

    • Ancillary Program (two positions)
    • Education Committee(two positions)
    • Ethics Advisory Committee (one position)
    • Finance Committee (two positions)
    • Membership Development Committee (three positions)
    • Professional Practice Committee (three positions)
    • Publications Committee (two positions)
    • Science Policy (one position)
    • Women in Bone and Mineral Research (one position)

All Committee members serve three-year terms. Terms for committees will begin on September 15, 2009, and end approximately three years later at the close of the Annual Meeting in 2012. The charges for these committees and a listing of the current members of these committees can be found at www.asbmr.org/about/committees.cfm.

The ASBMR strives for diversity on Council and Committees in members’ specialties; geographic locations; MDs and PhDs; academic, clinical practice and industry affiliation; gender and age. We encourage international members to nominate others or self-nominate.

ASBMR encourages the involvement of industry representatives in its governance activities. However, certain volunteer leadership positions require decisions about the allocation of ASBMR's time, priorities, and resources that can affect the interests of industries in the bone and mineral field. These decisions include confidential information about corporate fundraising, program topics and speaker selection, emerging technologies, and long-term budgeting. Given the seeming conflict between these interests, it appears to be an unresolvable conflict for a full time industry employee in the bone and mineral field to serve as an ASBMR Councilor, Officer or member of the Finance, Professional Practice, Ancillary Program, Ethics Advisory or Advocacy Committees. Industry representatives are welcome to serve as a member of the Education, Membership Development, Publications, Science Policy or Women in Bone and Mineral Research Committees.

Please Note: The ASBMR always receives more nominations than there are positions in which to serve. If you are not selected the first year of nomination, please persist in future years. The ASBMR values your willingness to serve and persistence does pay off.
