Matthew J. Hilton, Ph.D.
Matthew J. Hilton, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and a faculty member in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His research is aimed at uncovering the molecular circuitry regulating lineage commitment, proliferation, and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), chondrocytes and osteoblasts during both skeletal development and disease. His lab uses intricate genetic mouse models, biochemical approaches, and primary cell culture techniques to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms responsible for both normal skeletal development and disease, with a particular focus on the role that the Notch signaling pathway plays during skeletal development, repair, and regeneration.
