ASBMR Staff & Responsibilities

Executive Director Ann Elderkin (202) 367-1161
  • Oversees the ASBMR Business Office, Publications Office and staff, including hiring, evaluations, promotions, and staff reorganizations
  • Provides strategic counsel to the ASBMR Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Council, and all Committees and Ad Hoc Task Forces, as needed.
  • Represents the Society to related societies, other organizations, and government entities, including providing testimony to the U.S. Congress
  • Develops draft agendas for three Council Meetings each year, the Annual Strategic Retreat, monthly Executive Committee Meetings, and twice yearly Finance Committee meetings
  • Negotiates all contracts and reviews vendor selection
  • Drafts budgets, monitors expenses and income, develops financial projections
  • Serves as Primary Staff Liaison to the:
    • ASBMR Council
    • Executive Committee
    • Ethics Advisory Committee
    • Finance Committee
  • Serves as Secondary Staff Liaison to the:
    • Advocacy Committee

  • Manages the ASBMR Business Office and staff day to day, overseeing ASBMR Membership, Subscriptions and Internet operations
  • Drafts budgets, monitors expenses and income, develops financial projections; coordinates annual audit preparations and assists with budget projections
  • Supports the Executive Director with ASBMR’s scientific, advocacy and practice issues, substituting for the Executive Director in representing the Society to related societies, other organizations, and government entities as needed
  • Assists ASBMR committees and task forces to help committees achieve their goals, communicates their activities, follows up on their action items, and maintain adherence to timelines, policies and budgets
  • Oversees the annual ASBMR Officer and Council Election

  • Leads and directs the society’s fundraising and development activities, including grant writing and reporting, development of new programs and support opportunities, cultivation of new donors prospects
  • Develops, reviews, monitors and projects budgets connected to fundraising activities.
  • Oversees the development and preparation of materials related to fundraising
  • Serves as a Staff Liaison to the: Corporate Advisory Board

  • Works with the Executive Director to oversee and manage the nonscientific organization and implementation of the annual topical meeting

    • Coordinating the production of Society marketing material
    • Coordinating list swaps and reciprocal materials distribution agreements
    • Exhibiting at related-organizations' meetings as well as ASBMR-sponsored Meetings
    • Ordering of promotional materials and giveaways
  • Coordinates the ASBMR Job Placement Service
  • Coordinates the ASBMR Virtual Exhibit Hall
  • Coordinates ASBMR’s accounts payable
  • Coordinates the content and production for the ASBMR Membership Directory
  • Coordinates with the Executive Director and Project Manager:
    • Preparing/Communicating agendas, minutes, action items, updates and materials for/to Council, Executive Committee and Corporate Advisory Board
    • Securing approval of minutes and e-mail votes from Council, Executive Committee and Corporate Advisory Board
    • Obtaining council book reports from Committees, task forces and staff
    • Logistical support for Council, Committee and CAB meetings — collecting housing forms, updating attendance lists, tracking RSVP's, making catering arrangements and creating meeting materials (PowerPoint presentations, badges, tent cards, etc.)
  • Coordinates all membership and subscription duties
  • Responsible for mentorship and training of member services staff.
