Meetings
ASBMR 30th Annual Meeting —Abstract Deadline: April 16, 2008
There are only a few days left to submit your abstract to the ASBMR 30th Annual Meeting in Montréal, Québec, Canada, September 12-16, 2008. Your abstract must be submitted before the deadline of April 16, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
ASBMR’s Annual Meeting is the place to present your own science to leaders in the field and network with the more than 5,000 researchers and clinicians who are planning to attend. Take advantage of the highest level of scientific exchange whether you’ve submitted an abstract to the ASBMR Annual Meeting before or if you are considering submitting one for the first time this year.
All accepted abstracts will be presented at the meeting and published in the 2008 Abstracts, a supplement to the high-impact and widely disseminated, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR). Before you submit your abstract, please read the Call for Abstracts Instructions carefully.
Share your science! Visit the ASBMR website to submit your abstract today.
Passport Notice to U.S. Citizens
With the ASBMR 30th Annual Meeting taking place outside the United States this year, the ASBMR would like to remind all U.S. citizens that they are required to have a valid U.S. Department of State–issued passport to enter Canada. With the U.S. government’s new, stricter requirements, the ASBMR encourages U.S. members without a passport to begin their application process early. For more information, including specific details and how to apply for a passport, please visit the Department of State passport website at http://travel.state.gov. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to attend the premiere meeting in bone and mineral science!
Important Information for Foreign Nationals Residing in the United States
To ensure that foreign nationals residing in the United States do not encounter difficulties re-entering the United States from Canada after attending this year’s 30th Annual Meeting in Montréal, we recommend that you consult the U.S. State Department website or an immigration attorney to verify the current U.S. re-entry requirements for your specific visa (i.e., H-1, J, F, etc.). Depending on your country of origin, some individuals may also need to obtain a visa to enter Canada. Individuals should consult their home country’s foreign office for specific information regarding requirements for entry into Canada. We do not anticipate most will experience difficulty traveling between the United States and Canada. However, each individual’s situation is unique and may require additional vigilance.
ASBMR Co-Sponsored International Workshop on Primary Hyperparathyroidism
The ASBMR is pleased to co-sponsor the International Workshop on Primary Hyperparathyroidism on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Walt Disney World Dolphin in Orlando, Florida, USA. This workshop is being held in conjunction with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists 17th Annual Meeting and Clinical Congress, May 14-18, 2008.
Many advances have been made in the diagnosis and management of primary hyperparathyroidism since the last workshop was held in 2002. This year’s workshop will provide a forum for experts to provide updates on these aspects of primary hyperparathyroidism. Following the workshop, the 2002 guidelines will be revised. Register today and don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity. Complete information about the conference, is available at www.aace.com/meetings/ams/2008.

Committee Highlights
ASBMR Ethics Policy and Guidelines Amended to Address Industry Member Participation in ASBMR Council and Committees
The ASBMR Council has amended the ASBMR Ethics Policy and Guidelines to address industry-employed member participation in the ASBMR Council and certain committees. The amendment provides guidance to industry-employed members, encouraging them to be involved in ASBMR activities but recognizing that they may have industry interests that conflict with the interests of ASBMR that may be irresolvable. The ASBMR Ethics Advisory Committee (EAC) acknowledges that there may be situations or safeguards that could resolve or appropriately manage conflicts. Members are encouraged to discuss these issues with the EAC.
The amendment can be found in the last paragraph of the ASBMR Process section of the ASBMR Ethics Policy and Guidelines, available on the ASBMR website at www.asbmr.org/about/policies/ethics.cfm.
For more information about the Ethics Advisory Committee or to send your questions, comments or suggestions to the EAC, please contact Earline Marshall at emarshall@asbmr.org.
