Message from ASBMR Deputy Executive Director Karen Hasson

Karen R. Hasson

Dear ASBMR Members,

After 11 years with ASBMR, I have had the great pleasure of knowing so many of you that I could not possibly leave
without a note of thanks. This has not been an easy decision to make, but I am leaving ASBMR this month to take some time to focus on my family and two small children.

ASBMR has been a huge part of my life for so long and I have truly enjoyed working for such a meaningful organization. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunities for growth and professional development that ASBMR has provided. Much more importantly, however, I am so grateful to all of the warm, dedicated and caring people with whom I have worked or interacted. Thank you so much for your support, mentorship, and friendship through the years.
I sincerely hope our paths will cross again, but please know that I will remember you and
ASBMR
fondly. Thank you for everything and best wishes for a successful meeting in Hawaii!

Sincerely,
Karen R. Hasson
ASBMR Deputy Executive Director

2006 Bridge Funding Award Winner Testimonial

“I am deeply grateful to the ASBMR for the creation of the Bridge Funding Research Grants Program. Our research effort is entirely supported by external sources, and in a time of cutbacks, delays and overall great uncertainty in biomedical research funding, this award is critical in helping us to maintain our focus and push our research program forward. I would like to thank ASBMR for this concrete demonstration of support for the investigators who have a long-term commitment to research in the bone and mineral field.” - Thomas Lang, Ph.D., University of California, San Francisco

2005 Pediatrics Workshop Proceedings to be Published
The official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatrics, has published an online supplement to the proceedings from the workshop entitled, Effects of Pharmacological Agents on Bone in Childhood, which took place on April 14, 2005. FASEB Summer Research Conferences
In 1982, FASEB implemented its Summer Research Conferences, a series of small, inter-disciplinary meetings
that take place throughout the summer months. The FASEB Summer Research Conference Advisory Committee reviews and selects the conference topics from proposals submitted by member and nonmember organizers. These conferences are divided into small groups of experimental biologists who meet to explore new approaches in certain research areas that are undergoing rapid scientific changes.

These meetings are designed for scientists who are heavily engaged in research or are in ancillary fields and have an understanding of allied scientific advances. Post-doctoral candidates are also encouraged to participate. For more information about the conferences on offer this summer, please visit the FASEB website.

Committee Highlights

ASBMR Program Committee
The ASBMR Program Committee develops the scientific program for the ASBMR Annual Meeting. The Committee traditionally consists of two co-chairs, one who selects the basic program and one who selects the clinical program. This year’s co-chairs, Harold Jueppner, M.D. and Juliet Compston, M.D., FRCP, have worked with ASBMR President Steven Goldring, M.D. and ASBMR staff to put together an exciting and thought-provoking Annual Meeting. This year’s meeting consists of three different plenary sessions, a controversial debate on excessive suppression of bone remodeling by antiresorptive agents, a joint session on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, and 49 different basic and clinical Meet-the-Professor sessions. This year’s meeting is sure to inspire. To view the Preliminary Program, visit the ASBMR website at www.asbmr.org.

The Program Committee also finalizes the abstracts-based program for the Annual Meeting. Each year, the Program Committee meets in Washington D.C., USA to organize the concurrent oral and poster sessions. Last year over 1,700 abstracts were assigned to either concurrent oral or poster sessions. This year's abstract submission site is now open, so don't miss out on this opportunity to be part of the Annual Meeting program!
