ASBMR Mourns the Passing of a Colleague and Friend
 |
| Herbert A. Fleisch |
ASBMR is sad to announce the passing last month of our colleague and friend, Professor Herbert A. Fleisch. Professor Fleisch spent 40 years in the bone field and is recognized worldwide for his pioneering work leading to the discovery of bisphosphonates as inhibitors of bone resorption. In addition to his research, Professor Fleisch was a beloved and highly respected professor at the University of Berne in Switzerland for 30 years. In 1992 he was the recipient of the ASBMR William F. Neuman Award in recognition of his outstanding and major scientific contributions to bone and mineral research and for his contributions in teaching the next generation of bone scientists. Professor Fleisch was a founder of the International Bone and Mineral Society (IBMS) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). We will miss his warmth, enthusiasm and scientific zeal. Contributions can be made in remembrance of Professor Fleisch to "Pro Scientia et Arte" at UBS Bank, #80-2-CH520023 5235 6795 3601 L.
