ASBMR Call for Council & Committee Nominations—Deadline: April 4th
Want to get more involved? Then please consider nominating yourself or encouraging other ASBMR members to nominate themselves for one or more ASBMR leadership positions! This is a great opportunity to take on a more active role in your Society.
In the fall of 2007, new positions will become available for President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer-Elect and Councilor (three positions), as well as on programmatic committees including the Ancillary Program, Education, Finance, Membership Development, Professional Practice, Publications, and Science Policy Committees. Council and Committee members all serve 3-year terms. Charges for all committees can be found on the ASBMR website.
The ASBMR strives for diversity with respect to Council and Committee membership (i.e. specialties, geographic locations, MDs and PhDs, academic, clinical practice or industry affiliation, gender, and age) and specifically encourages international members and young investigators to nominate others or self-nominate.
The ASBMR nominations process has been simplified for those members who wish to nominate another member and for those members who wish to nominate themselves. To apply or support a nomination, please visit the ASBMR website. All nomination materials must be received in the ASBMR Business office by Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Thank you for your participation in this important process. We value your interest in serving your Society and advancing the field of bone and mineral metabolism!

| Jon (Sandy) Burnham, M.D. |
"As a pediatric rheumatologist and young investigator, my research has focused on the characterization of osteoporosis and fracture risk in children with chronic arthritis. Working with my mentor, Dr. Mary Leonard, I used the United Kingdom General Practice Research Database to demonstrate that fractures were substantially more common in subjects with childhood arthritis, compared with controls, particularly during high-risk fracture periods, such as adolescence and after the age of 45 years. Additionally, I have used peripheral quantitative computed tomography to examine “functional muscle-bone unit” in health and disease. The ASBMR / Harold Frost Young Investigator Award provided me the wonderful opportunity to attend the Sun Valley Workshop on Skeletal Tissue Biology. Not only was I able to present my work in an informal setting, but I also had the good fortune to interact with and learn from many like-minded young investigators and leaders in bone and mineral research over dinner at the Sun Valley Lodge and on the hiking trails of Idaho. "
The deadline for the 2007 Harold M. Frost Awards is Monday, April 2, 2007.

Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology
The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) serves as the voice of scientists and as the liaison between the research community and the federal government. FASEB represents 21 societies and nearly 60,000 scientists’ works to promote scientific progress and education
FASEB, like ASBMR, is committed to nurturing and developing future generations of basic and clinical scientists, fostering the integration of clinical and basic science, and facilitating the translation of science to health care and clinical practice.
Since ASBMR became a member of FASEB in 1997, we have enjoyed several important benefits of membership. FASEB has assisted ASBMR while lobbying for increased funding and changes in policy from Congress; kept the ASBMR informed of current biomedical issues, and ASBMR members have participated directly in influencing science policy by participating on several FASEB Committees.
ASBMR's representatives to FASEB include Paula Stern, Ph.D. who is our FASEB Board Member; Larry Suva, Ph.D., Science Policy Committee; Felicia Cosman, M.D., Clinical Research Subcommittee, Science Policy Committee; Nicola Partridge, Ph.D., NIH Issues Subcommittee, Science Policy Committee; Phillip Osdoby, Ph.D., Training and Career Resources Subcommittee, Science Policy Committee; Jane Lian, Ph.D., Excellence in Science Award Committee; Robert Blank, M.D., Ph.D., Research Conferences Advisory Committee; Suzanne Jan de Beur, M.D., Publications and Communications Committee; Gloria Gronowicz, Ph.D. and Bernard Haloran, Ph.D., Federal Funding Consensus Conference Representatives; and John Wysolmerski, M.D., FASEB Editorial Board.

Committee Highlights
Publications Committee
The ASBMR Publications Committee oversees the policies and procedures of all ASBMR publications and continues to support the publication and dissemination of the best research in the field. The ASBMR’s publications continue to thrive in a very competitive market and the Publications Committee works with the Editors and publications staff in their pursuit of improving these publications. There were considerable highlights to ASBMR publications during 2006; JBMRonline was redesigned and the 6th edition of the Primer on the Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism was released.
In 2007, the Committee will finish the search for the next Editor-in-Chief who will replace the current Editor, John Eisman, in January 2008. The committee has an exciting list of candidates for the position and it is clear that JBMR will continue its history of outstanding leadership. Additionally, Cliff Rosen, the new Editor-in-Chief of the Primer, has selected his editorial team and they will meet in the coming months to commence planning the next edition.
