Congratulations to Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D., Recipient of the 2015 Shirley Hohl Service Award

The Shirley Hohl Service Award is given to an individual who is recognized by members of the Society as having made significant contributions to the mission of the ASBMR. The 2015 Shirley Hohl Service Award will be presented to Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D., on Sunday, October 11, 2015 during the Town Hall Meeting at the ASBMR 2015 Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D., is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Director of the Division of Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. A graduate of Cornell University and Cornell University Medical College, she completed her Osler Medical Residency and Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a Physician-Scientist and a practicing Endocrinologist, her clinical and research work focus on understanding metabolic bone diseases at the basic level and translating these observations to the bedside. Specifically, her research interests include understanding the physiology of FGF23 and the molecular basis of disorders of phosphate homeostasis, the genetic basis of parathyroid hormone resistance syndromes and the effect of osteoporosis therapies on mesenchymal stem cells.
Dr. Jan de Beur has served the ASBMR as the Chair of the Membership Development Committee, the Co-Chair of the ASBMR 2011 Annual Meeting, and the Chair of the Professional Practice Committee. She has also served as Associate Editor for the Primer on Metabolic Bone Disease and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism for the 6th, 7th and 8th editions.
