NIH Announces Change to Resubmission Policy
Date: April 17, 2014
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) have released an updated policy for application submission. The newly released policy allows an applicant to submit a grant application as a new application, even if it has previously been reviewed by NIH, without requiring the applicant to substantially redesign the content and scope of the project. Applicants may now submit a new (A0) application for the next appropriate due date following an unsuccessful resubmission (A1) without demonstrating substantial change in scientific direction. This policy is effective immediately for due dates after April 16, 2014. Similarity of the science in the new (A0) application to any previously reviewed submission will not be assessed. The new NIH Guide Notice announcing this policy can be found here. More information about this announcement can also be found in NIH Deputy Director Dr. Sally Rockey’s blog here.
