ASBMR 2014 Annual Meeting Highlight: Louis V. Avioli Lecture Presented by Hiroshi Takayanagi, M.D., Ph.D.

The Louis V. Avioli Lecture, “What Changes Has Osteoimmunology Brought About?” will be presented at the ASBMR 2014 Annual Meeting by Hiroshi Takayanagi, M.D., Ph.D. By combining experiences as an orthopaedic surgeon and an immunologist, Takayanagi studied the mechanism of bone destruction in rheumatoid arthritis, which focused on the regulation of osteoclasts by T cells in the laboratory of Professor Tadatsugu Taniguchi. He currently serves as the research director of the Takayanagi Osteonetwork Project, Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology Program, Japanese Science and Technology Agency and as a professor in the Department of Immunology, Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty Medicine at The University of Tokyo. During this session, he will review the history and recent advances of osteoimmunology and the perspective for the osteonetwork beyond osteoimmunology.
