Congratulations to G. David Roodman, 2017 Recipient of the ASBMR Lawrence G. Raisz Award
Date: August 03, 2017
Dr. Roodman is Director of Hematology/Oncology and Kenneth Wiseman Professor of Medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine. His laboratory pioneered use of long-term marrow cultures to characterize factors regulating normal osteoclast formation and the abnormal bone remodeling in Paget's disease (PD) and multiple myeloma. His group developed in vivo models of PD and myeloma bone disease that facilitated identification of the mechanisms driving abnormal bone remodeling in these diseases. His lab currently focuses on identification of coupling factors in PD, the contributions of osteocytes to myeloma growth and bone destruction, and reversing the protracted osteoblast suppression in myeloma patients.
