NIH Deputy Director Blog: Does Your Academic Training Destine Your Choice of Research Subject?

    Date: February 12, 2013

Upon frequently hearing statements that pigeonholed Ph.D.s to animal-only studies and M.D.s to human-only studies, NIH Deputy Director Sally Rockey decided to take a took a closer look at the data. Though her data supports the idea that PIs conduct research that fits with their academic training, “a substantial number of PhD-trained scientists are doing research with human subjects and many clinician-scientists (either MDs or M.D./Ph.Ds) conduct research with neither human nor animal subjects.” Check out her blog, “Rock Talk”, for details on her findings.
