Date: June 05, 2013
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released a new factsheet summarizing the impact of sequestration cuts on the agency. The factsheet notes that sequestration requires NIH to cut five percent ($1.55 billion) from its fiscal year 2013 budget and that every area of medical research will be affected. It also discusses the effect of the cuts on the scientific workforce and mentions delays in medical progress. Additionally, more than 80% of the NIH’s budget goes to over 300,000 research personnel at more than 2,500 universities and research institutions throughout the United States, which affects nearly all ASBMR members.
