ASBMR Mourns the Passing of Dr. Lawrence G. Raisz
Date: September 08, 2010
We mourn the passing of Dr. Lawrence G. Raisz, a founding member of our Society, colleague and friend, who died of stomach cancer on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at his home in Farmington, CT, USA. Dr. Raisz was a preeminent leader, researcher, teacher, and clinician in the field of bone and mineral metabolism for over 50 years, epitomizing the ideals of the physician scientist. He was the second President of ASBMR and the first Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. He will be remembered by many for his kindness and generosity, his legacy of scientific contributions focusing on mechanisms of bone formation and resorption and the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, and his tireless efforts to increase the awareness of osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases among health care professionals and the lay public.
We would like to offer our sincerest sympathy to his wife Helen, his five children Pancaratna, Matthew, Jonathan, Katherine and Nicholas, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Join your colleagues in sharing your fond memories of Dr. Raisz. ASBMR will share these messages with his family. Post your memory or condolence on the ASBMR Website.
