Congratulations to the 2018 Recipients of the Fund for Research and Education Research Grants!
Date: August 30, 2018
Congratulations to our 2018 ASBMR Fund for Research and Education Research Grant recipients Daniel Whitney, Ph.D., University of Michigan (pictured left), Amy Sato, Ph.D., Indiana University School of Medicine (pictured center), and Xiaoyu Tong, M.D., Ph.D., University of Eastern Finland (pictured right). Because of the generous donations made by ASBMR members to the Fund for Research and Education, the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education Research Grants provide funding of $7,500 each to Drs. Whitney, Sato, and Tong to learn a new technique to successfully complete their research projects in the bone and mineral field. Dr. Whitney’s project aims to determine the effects of bone marrow secretome from children with cerebral palsy on osteoblast differentiation. Dr. Sato’s research seeks to find countermeasures that prevent the deleterious musculoskeletal effects of glucocorticoids. Dr. Tong’s research objectives are: (1) to quantify how the microstructural parameters and material composition vary in all regions of bone with ROD and kidney transplantation compared with healthy bone from normal subjects; (2) to clarify how parameters measured by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic imaging (FTIRI) relate to histomorphometric ones that reflect bone remodeling. Please join us in congratulating them!
