The ASBMR Paula Stern Achievement Award annually recognizes a woman in the bone field who has made significant scientific achievements and who has promoted the professional development/advancement of women in the field. The 2016 ASBMR Paula Stern Achievement Award will be presented to Merry Jo Oursler, Ph.D. at the ASBMR 2016 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Saturday, September 17, 2016.
Merry Jo Oursler, Ph.D., graduated from Washington University in St. Louis Missouri and received postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. She was a faculty member of the Biology Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth (1996-2003). Dr. Oursler is currently a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, and Nutrition. Her research on bone cell biology and interactions between osteoclasts and other bone cells has received funding from the NIH and the U.S. Department of Defense since 1993. She has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, and short-term international scholars.
