U.S. Clinicians: ICD-10 Codes Take Effect on October 1
Date: September 30, 2015
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) International Classification of Disease (ICD)-10 code sets are being implemented at the start of October. ICD-10 code sets include significant improvements over ICD-9 in coding primary care encounters, external causes of injury, mental disorders and preventive health. The ICD-10 codes will be required for reimbursement for osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment activities.
The ICD-10-CM/PCS will replace the ICD-9-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes in all health care settings for dates of service, or dates of discharge for inpatients, that occur on or after the implementation date of ICD-10, which is October 1, 2015. Please visit the CMS Website for more information.
