The Steven M. Krane Award is given in recognition of outstanding achievements in basic, translational or clinical research in inflammation and/or skeletal matrix biology. The 2016 Steven M. Krane Award will be presented to Nancy E. Lane, M.D. at the ASBMR 2016 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Sunday, September 18, 2016.
Dr. Nancy Lane is currently the Endowed Professor of Medicine, Rheumatology and Aging, and Director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Health at the University of California at Davis School of Medicine. She is an internationally known expert on the epidemiology and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases including osteoarthritis and osteoporosis and has published over 300 peer reviewed journal articles. Dr. Lane and her research team have performed seminal translational studies on novel agents to restore bone tissue in patients with severe glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis, and a novel treatment to direct mesenchymal stem cells to the bone surface to stimulate new bone formation. Lastly, Dr. Lane is a tireless mentor having initiated the Young Investigators Workshop of the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative to mentor over 300 junior faculty on grant writing and academic careers, and mentoring rheumatology subspecialty fellows and junior faculty in osteoporosis and the inflammatory diseases.
