Jack Martin Named Victorian Senior Australian of the Year

Professor Jack Martin, esteemed researcher at St. Vincent’s Institute Medical Center, and long-standing ASBMR member, has been named Victorian Senior Australian for 2013. Dr. Martin’s work in bone cell biology, intercellular communication in bone and the differentiation of bone cells, and bone endocrinology have helped to advance the understanding and treatment of disease such as osteoporosis, bone tumors and the spread of cancer to bone.
Currently a fellow of the Royal Society and of the Australian Academy of Science, Dr. Martin served as President of the International Bone and Mineral Society, Director of St. Vincent’s Institute, and a Council member of ASBMR. He received the ASBMR William F. Neuman Award in 1994. Dr. Martin has published more than 600 scientific articles and reviews, as well as six books.
