Your Help is Needed to Protect NIH Funding!

    Date: June 12, 2012

Contact your Congressional Representatives today and tell them to make support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) a priority and to act against funding cuts that would lead to draconian rollbacks in science funding in FY2013. In its annual funding report, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) urges Congress to support an increase for NIH funding to $32 billion in FY2013. This funding level, which has the support of dozens of organizations, including the ASBMR and over 150 members of Congress, is critical to continue our nation’s investment in biomedical research and is the first step of a program of sustained growth that will keep pace with increasing scientific opportunities and maintain our international competitiveness. A recent FASEB analysis shows the impact that sequestration—drastic budget reductions currently scheduled to go into effect for FY2013—would have on scientific research funding. FASEB estimates that sequestration would result in a 9.1 percent or $2.8 billion cut in NIH extramural research funding next year. Add your voice to the call  for sustained scientific research funding. Contact your Congressional Representative today.
