Bone Deterioration Added to List of Diabetes Complications
Date: November 19, 2013
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic have defined osteoporosis as yet another complication of type 2 diabetes. Published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research this month, their findings, as well as their micro-indentation approach, have been making waves in the diabetes and bone communities. The new approach, which allows for bone density testing in live humans over the shin bone "… is the first demonstration — using direct measurement of bone strength in the body — of compromised bone material in patients with type 2 diabetes," senior author Sundeep Khosla, M.D., said.
