In Memoriam: Itai Arye Bab, D.M.D.

ASBMR is sad to announce the passing of member Itai Arye Bab, D.M.D, Professor of Oral Pathology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor Bab’s laboratory engaged in multidisciplinary research studying the mechanisms involved in skeletal remodeling, metabolic bone diseases, and the integration of endosseous implants. He was studying the effects of different hormone and growth factor derived drugs on bone remodeling, bone mass and healing of bone injuries. Most recently, Professor Bab’s research centered around exploring the bidirectional interaction between the brain and the skeleton.
Professor Bab was widely published, and was a contributor to the Primer on Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism, 8th edition. In addition to his work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he was a visiting Senior Scientist at Oxford University, a Senior Research Fellow at Merck Research Labs, a Visiting Professor at Mt. Sinai Hospital and the University of Massachusetts and a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School.
