ASBMR Mourns the Passing of Colleague and Friend, Priscilla Chen, Ph.D.
Date: October 16, 2013
Priscilla Chen, Ph.D. passed away October 11, 2013 after a very brief illness. Dr. Chen was a dedicated employee of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) serving in the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) division since 1989. Priscilla was the executive secretary for oral biology and medicine-1, and -2 for four years prior to the re-organization of study sections in 2004. At that time and until her death she was the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) for the Skeletal Biology Development and Disease (SBDD) Study Section.
Dr. Chen was the best of the best at NIH: fair, honest and above reproach. Many of us in the bone biology field grew up with Priscilla in our numerous study sections where she taught by example. To some of us, Dr. Chen was SBDD. Although the group dinners, photos and plaques entertained us and held us together as a functional but collaborative review panel, it was always Priscilla to whom we looked for guidance and insight. Her love of horses and her old pickup truck will be long remembered. Dr. Chen will be missed by everyone she touched. A full memoriam will be included in a forthcoming issue of the JBMR®. To share a message of support or a fond memory for Priscilla’s family to receive, please post them on the ASBMR website.
