Respond to NIH Request for Information on Implementation of Recommendations of the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director Working Group on the Biomedical Research Workforce

    Date: March 18, 2013

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) inviting comments and suggestions on the implementation of recommendations made by the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director (ACD) Working Group on the Biomedical Research Workforce. This workgroup was charged with examining the future of the biomedical research workforce in the United States and recommending actions to ensure this workforce is sustainable. Responses to the workgroup’s recommendations are due by April 22, 2013.

In December 2010, the NIH Director charged a working group of the ACD with examining the future of the biomedical research workforce in the United States and recommending actions to ensure this workforce is sustainable. In June 2012 they presented their findings and conclusions to the ACD at a federal advisory committee meeting open to the public. NIH leadership considered the recommendations and developed preliminary plans for their implementation that were then presented to the ACD at an open meeting in December 2012. NIH is moving forward with implementation and is requesting input to inform the implementation plans in several areas. Further details are found here.

Responses are sought from all stakeholders in the extramural community, including students, post doctorates, scientists, scientific societies, and NIH grantee institutions, as well as from the general public.
