Congratulations to our new Fellows of the ASBMR! The Fellow of the ASBMR Program was established in 2018 to recognize long-term ASBMR members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal science. The program is committed to recognizing the breadth and diversity of the Society’s membership. In 2020, 37 ASBMR members received Fellow designation. The ASBMR 2020 Annual Meeting will be a fully virtual event, taking place September 11-15. Expereince the bone field’s latest, most cutting-edge research from the comfort of your own home. Our virtual meeting will allow for more engagement with your peers and offer new interactive presentation opportunities.

Research Interest Meeting at 3PM EDT


The ASBMR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee invites you to join them for the next Research Interest Meeting, taking place today, Thursday, June 18 at 3PM EDT/2PM CDT! These bi-weekly meetings feature 2-3 members presenting a current project they are working on and discussing their focus areas.  With time for Q&A following each short presentation, these meetings serve as a platform for networking, collaborations, and learning more about your colleagues within the bone community. Today’s presenters include Fayez Safadi, Ph.D., Director and Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University, and Zhirui Jiang, Ph,D., Postdoc at the University of Penn. We also invite you to consider presenting at a future Research Interest call! If you are interested in presenting, please fill out the Research Interest Meeting form.
 
The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) and Bone and Joint Canada is now accepting applications for the 2020 grant mentoring and career development program. The program consists of two workshops where early-career basic and clinical science investigators have the opportunity to work with experienced researchers who will assist them in securing funding and other survival skills for pursuing an academic career. The Fall Workshop is October 23-25, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The application deadline is July 15, 2020. For more information on the grant program click here.
 

Agreement Between Projekt DEAL Institutions and Wiley
Provides Open Access Publishing to JBMR Plus®


Authors at about 700 research institutions in Germany can publish open access in JBMR® Plus and JBMR® without paying APC! The agreement between Projekt DEAL institutions and our publishing partner Wiley is part of a nationally coordinated strategy to support and accelerate open access publishing. If you are based at a participating German institution, you can now also browse and read the entire portfolio of journals available on Wiley Online Library. Check your eligibility!
 

In Memoriam: Bruce Ettinger, M.D.


It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of member Bruce Ettinger, M.D. on June 15, 2020. Dr. Ettinger was an adjunct research scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research; and an emeritus clinical professor of medicine and radiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He contributed greatly to the research and study of osteoporosis throughout his career. Dr. Ettinger had a distinguished publishing career as well, authoring and co-authoring more than 137 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and has written numerous book chapters. He has spent 30 years practicing endocrinology and internal medicine.
