Date: January 07, 2020
Congratulations to our 2019 ASBMR Fund for Research and Education Research Grant recipients Melissa Formosa, Ph.D. (left), Arshiya Banu, Ph.D. (center) and Flavia Amadeu de Oliveira, Ph.D. (right). Because of the generous donations made by ASBMR members to the Fund for Research and Education, the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education Research Grants provide funding of $7,500 each to Drs. Formosa, Banu, and Amadeu de Oliveira to learn a new technique to successfully complete their research projects in the bone and mineral field.
Dr. Formosa's project aims to investigate novel genetic factors implicated in familial osteoporosis using the zebrafish model. Dr. Banu's research project titled "Identification of novel drivers of osteosarcoma metastasis" plans to use the FRE research grant to follow up the specific role of FGFR1 in metastasis. One of the new techniques Dr. Amadeu de Oliveira will acquire thanks to the grant is learning how to generate Cre-mediated conditional knockin and knockout mouse models to study the role of TNAP and asfotase alfa in microvascular (cappilaries) calcification in bone.
Please join us in congratulating them!
