    Dear Colleagues:

Navigating the past two years has required all of us to change our approach to achieve goals both in our professional and personal lives. For the Society it has resulted in utilizing technology in new ways and accelerating the scope and scale of innovation — from reinventing our Annual Meeting, expanding our virtual educational content and reaching out to constituencies in new corners of the globe we have identified from the 2020 ASBMR meeting. I am proud of how we have been able to accomplish difficult tasks and achieve these positive results in record time.

At the heart of this has been a dedicated, forward-thinking group of volunteer leaders working together with ASBMR members and staff to achieve great things.

Our volunteer leaders play an active role in advancing the Society and driving our strategic goals forward, and if you have ever wanted to get involved—now is the time. The Nominating Committee led by Past-President Suzanne Jan de Beur is currently accepting applications for volunteer leadership positions including for President-elect, three Council positions and most standing Committees. We are looking for volunteers from all career levels, scientific research areas, and cultural backgrounds and I encourage each member to nominate a colleague or to self-nominate to actively contribute to advancing ASBMR’s strategic goals.

This is an exciting time to be a volunteer leader and to help shape the future of the organization. In addition, volunteering has numerous benefits, including the ability to develop crucial leadership skills and making meaningful career connections with colleagues. I, myself, began as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee and JBMR® Editorial Board. Not only was it extremely gratifying to serve the Society working to forward our collective mission, but leading helped me grow personally and professionally and to expand my research networks.

I encourage each of you to visit the ASBMR website to learn more about the nomination process, view the full list of upcoming open vacancies, and submit a nomination. The nomination deadline is Friday, March 18.

Finally, I wanted to share the impactful ways ASBMR supported our members in 2021 through our annual Year in Review infographic. I hope that you are as proud as I am in our collective accomplishments to advance the field, come together and be there for our members when they needed us the most.

    Sincerely,
Peter Ebeling, AO, FRACP, MBBS, MD, FASBMR
    ASBMR President
