  • Message from ASBMR President Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D.
    May 12, 2021

    Dear Colleagues,

Earlier this week, it was announced that the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting will be held as an in-person event in the United States from October 1-4, with the ability to experience the meeting virtually, in real time. This decision is grounded in members’ direct feedback from the travel survey conducted last month.

This means that everyone will have the opportunity to present their research to a global audience this fall no matter your physical location. Also, all accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR®, Impact Factor 5.854), the highest-ranked bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal journal.

We recognize that there are factors that may prevent some from attending this year’s Annual Meeting in person, and that there may still be uncertainty surrounding travel in the coming months. That is why we are committed to providing alongside our in-person meeting a robust, synchronous virtual experience that includes:

    • The ability for ALL presenters to share their science with the bone, mineral and musculoskeletal community. This means that everyone who submits an abstract will be able to present their research in October, whether your abstract receives an oral or poster presentation, and regardless of whether you will attend the meeting in person or virtually — Submit your abstract by May 12!
    • High-impact educational offerings that will allow you to interact in real time with thought leaders in the field regardless of your physical location
    • Innovative networking opportunities that will connect you to other attendees with similar interests — globally
    • The chance to connect with our valued corporate partners and exhibitors

We are confident that the format of this year’s ASBMR Annual Meeting provides the greatest opportunity for our entire community to come together during these extraordinary times — either in person or virtually. Further, the lessons learned from this year’s innovative approach will help guide the look and offerings of our meetings in the future.

More details on the location of the U.S.-based, in-person event will be announced in the coming weeks. ASBMR recognizes the hard work that our members and attendees put in annually to submit their research to the Annual Meeting. Part of the way we recognize these efforts are through various award and travel grant programs. Available for all career levels, be sure to take advantage of these available programs to assist you with presenting your research to our worldwide audience!

As an inclusive, global society, it is our mission to ensure that YOUR voice is represented by providing you with the opportunity to not only attend this year’s meeting, but also present your impactful research regardless of your physical location.

Remember to submit your abstract to the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting by Wednesday, May 12, 2021!

    Sincerely,

Suzanne M. Jan de Beur, M.D.

    ASBMR President
