    Dear Colleagues,

By now, I’m sure most of you have heard the exciting news that the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting will be held in sunny San Diego, California, USA! We’ve secured the San Diego Convention Center with stunning waterfront views, ample outdoor space, and a large room block at the adjacent and beautiful San Diego Marriott Marquis.

Many of you might remember this location from the ASBMR Annual Meeting in 2011, which holds a special place for me personally as I served on the ASBMR Annual Meeting Program Committee that year. I look forward to welcoming you back to “America’s Finest City” this October 1-4, 2021.

While we are aware that travel may still be difficult for many of our members around the world, we want to assure you that we are also providing a robust, synchronous virtual experience that will allow those unable to travel to San Diego to still take advantage of all the benefits of attending the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting, in real time, from the comfort of your home or office.

ASBMR leadership also recognizes that travel costs may be a barrier now more than ever. We’re excited to announce that we are expanding the number of travel grants available for ASBMR early stage and mid-career members. Details about the expanded travel grant program will be shared over the coming weeks, but know that we are committed to our members and your ability to share your research.

The uncertainty around the pandemic, meeting location, travel and funding may have discouraged some of you from submitting abstracts during the regular submission deadline last month. As a result, starting on July 7, we invite you again to submit abstracts on clinical, basic and/or translational subjects that describe novel, groundbreaking research findings of the highest scientific impact during the late-breaking abstract submission period. The deadline to submit your research is July 28.

We are confident that the format of the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting provides the greatest opportunity for our community to come together during these extraordinary times — either in person in San Diego or virtually — and we’re delighted to expand opportunities for both travel grants and abstract submissions.

Annual Meeting registration and housing will be opening in late July, so mark your calendars and stay tuned for updates!

    Sincerely,

    Suzanne Jan de Beur
    ASBMR President
