  • Thank You Message from Dr. Teresita Bellido

    Dear Colleagues:

What an amazing week it has been! As I pass the ASBMR President’s gavel to Dr. Suzanne Jan de Beur, I want to thank each of you for participating in the ASBMR 2020 Annual Meeting - Virtual Event. The Society was able to accomplish something we were not sure could be accomplished just a few short months ago—holding a successful and fully immersive virtual scientific meeting in the middle of a global pandemic.

We did it! Together we turned this “challenge” into an incredible “opportunity”, the impact of which will be felt for years to come.   The numbers speak for themselves—3,327 registrants! That is nearly 500 more attendees than the 2019 onsite meeting in Orlando, Florida, USA and the largest Annual Meeting attendance in four years. The Society now has over 3,100 members – the highest mark in five years. Thank you for your loyalty!

While the registration and membership numbers are impressive, what is truly amazing is the level of engagement of our attendees on the virtual platform during the meeting. Over 800,000 page views, 9,000 e-poster views, 4,891 exhibit booth visits, 1,227 posts in the chat rooms and 128 posts on the social wall with even more social media posts via Twitter (search #ASBMR2020 to view them all!).

Your input is very important in helping us to plan and enhance future ASBMR Annual Meetings. This morning an email was sent to all attendees inviting you to provide your thoughts on this year’s Annual Meeting – Virtual Event experience. Please, take a few minutes to provide us with feedback on your experience by October 2.

Remember, the Annual Meeting virtual platform, including the interactive posters, will be available for on-demand viewing the next 30 days. After this, most of the content will be transferred to the ASBMR Education Resource Center and available at no charge to current members and registered 2020 Annual Meeting non-member attendees.

Also, the  Meet-the-Professor sessions that usually occur during the in-person meeting will be occurring throughout the fall. Be on the lookout for more information about reserving your spot.

Finally, please save the date for the ASBMR 2021 Annual Meeting taking place October 1-4, 2021 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada! I hope to see you all there in person!

    Sincerely,

    Teresita Bellido, Ph.D.

    ASBMR Immediate Past-President
