    Apply Today for the 2023 ASBMR John Haddad Young Investigator Awards!


    The ASBMR and Advances in Mineral Metabolism (AIMM) will continue its collaboration in support of the professional development of young investigators in 2023 by offering ten ASBMR John Haddad Young Investigator Awards to attend the AIMM/ASBMR Meeting, April 3 - April 8 in Snowmass, Colorado, USA. Awardees will receive $1,600 each for travel support and the opportunity to present their research, as well as interact with senior investigators and leaders in the field.     The application deadline is Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST.

    Join us Thursday, December 8 at 10 A.M. as Gregory Clines, M.D., Ph.D. will present an osteoblast-centric endocrinologist's view of bone metastasis and highlight the epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical care, and molecular mechanisms of cancer cell invasion to the skeleton and the skeletal response to the invaders.     FASEB is now accepting nominations for its 2023 Excellence in Science Awards. Excellence in Science Awards honor outstanding women scientists who demonstrate commitment to the professional development of others, their scientific society, and the broader community. Three awards will be presented in the following career stages – Lifetime Achievement (established investigators), Mid-Career Investigator (within 7 to 15 years of first independent scientist position), and Early-Career Investigator (within 7 years of first independent scientist position). Nominations must be submitted by December 12, 2022. More information on eligibility, submission requirements, and nomination procedures available here.

    The next ASBMR Early-Stage Investigator Clinical Case Workshop of 2022 will occur Thursday, December 15 at 12:00 PM EST. Join Emily Stein, M.D. and Yi Liu, as they cover the topic of Peri-Operative Use of Anabolic Therapy in Patients Undergoing Spine Surgery.
     
    The clinical case workshop series aims to engage clinical fellows/trainees in stimulating discussion around musculoskeletal topics, and attendees are encouraged to ask written questions (via the chat function) to allow for a more interactive style. Click here to register.

    ASBMR and the Early Stage Investigator Subcommittee is pleased to launch the Leadership Education for Advancement (LEAD) Program! LEAD is a FREE customized training program in leadership and team management. The program will meet monthly in 2023 and is geared toward early and mid-career faculty, but ASBMR members at ALL career stages are encouraged to apply. The monthly sessions will be led by recognized experts in relevant leadership topics, followed by peer networking groups facilitated by senior career ASBMR members, and culminating with a networking reception at the 2023 ASBMR meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The goal is to build leadership and management skills that will allow ASBMR members to advance within their careers and remain active in the musculoskeletal field.     It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of member Uri Liberman, M.D., Ph.D. on November 13, 2022. Dr. Liberman was Professor of Physiology & Medicine at Tel Aviv University Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. He was a member of the ASBMR since its founding and served on the first editorial board of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
     
    Dr. Liberman was also very active in other bone-related organizations during his lifetime. He was a Past-President of the Israeli Bone and Mineral Society and the Israeli Osteoporosis Association, Executive Committee Chairman of the Israel Foundation for Osteoporosis and Bone Diseases, and a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Task Force on Osteoporosis.
     
    He authored more than 148 articles published in peer-reviewed journals as well as several books. In 2001 he was the recipient of the International Bone and Mineral Society (IBMS) John G. Haddad Jr. Award. Please join us in recognizing Dr. Liberman’s contributions to our field by leaving a note or sharing a memory here.
