    A program of microRNAs controls osteogenic lineage progression by targeting transcription factor Runx2

    In this study, the authors examined whether microRNAs (miRNAs) can control the osteogenic activity of Runx2 and affect osteoblast maturation. Using 3'UTR luciferase reporter, immunoblot, and mRNA stability assays, they demonstrated that a number of miRNAs were expressed during differentiation of osteoblasts and chondrocytes and these directly attenuated Runx2 protein accumulations in developing cells.  They conclude that osteoblastogenesis is influenced by an elaborate network of miRNAs, which directly target Runx2.
