    Schnurri-3 regulates ERK downstream of WNT signaling in osteoblasts

    To examine the effect of scnurri-3 (SHN3) on osteoblast function the authors examined a number of genetic models.  They identified SHN3 as a dampener of ERK activity that in part functions downstream of WNT signaling. A D-domain motif within SHN3 mediated the interaction with and inhibition of ERK activity and osteoblast differentiation, and knock-in of a mutation in Shn3 that abolished this interaction resulted in aberrant ERK activation and osteoblast hyperactivity in vivo.
