    NIAMS Highlights "ARRA Success Stories"

    National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) Director Stephen Katz, M.D., Ph.D., recently highlighted in his November Director's Letter several "success stories"  from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant recipients on research they are undertaking as a direct result of receiving ARRA funds.  Two individuals highlighted in his letter are ASBMR members.

    • Dr. Mary Bouxsein, Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, is using ARRA funding to study the negative effects of calorie restriction on bone growth.
    • Dr. Mary Goldring and colleagues at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, is applying genomics and other high throughput technologies to the study of osteoarthritis.

    ASBMR congratulates Drs. Bouxsein and Goldring, as well as the numerous other ASBMR members who received funding through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.   Read the full article on the NIAMS website.
