Congress Extends SBIR Program until July 31, 2010

    Date: May 08, 2010

Congress passed S. 3253, a bill that will provide another short-term extension for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These programs were operating under an authorization that expired on April 30th.  S. 3253 extends the SBIR and STTR programs through July 31, 2010 and does not increase the current set-aside level.  The bill passed the Senate by "unanimous consent" and was approved in the House on a voice vote. The latest extension will provide more time for lawmakers to work through ongoing disagreements between the House and Senate versions of the legislation. It is unlikely, however, that substantial progress on the legislation will occur this year.
