    This Year’s Frederic C. Bartter Award Recipient

    This year’s Frederic C. Bartter Award is Michael Econs, M.D. The Bartter Award honors an ASBMR member in recognition of outstanding clinical investigation in disorders of bone and mineral metabolism.

    Dr. Econs is Professor of Medicine and Medical and Molecular Genetics and Division Director of Endocrinology at Indiana University School of Medicine.  Dr. Econs’ primary area of interest is the genetic aspects of metabolic bone diseases.  Current projects include clinical, genetic, and mechanistic studies of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR) and autosomal dominant osteopetrosis as well as a study that focuses on the genetic determinants of bone fragility in normal individuals. 

    Dr. Econs, along with other Esteemed Award winners, will participate in the Leadership Forum: Conversations with Esteemed Award Winners that will take place at the ASBMR Annual Meeting and will provide insight into the careers and lessons learned of the awardees.
