    NIH Center for Scientific Review Offers Challenge Competitions to Reduce Bias in Peer Review

    In the May 5, 2014, edition of the Federal Register, two notices for challenge programs related to peer review were released by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific Review. The first seeks new methods to detect bias in NIH peer review of grant applications, while the second focuses on creating new strategies to strengthen reviewer training practice to increase fairness and impartiality in peer review of grant applications. Submissions for each challenge will be accepted from May 5, 2014 through June 30, 2014. First ($10,000) and second ($5,000) prizes will be awarded for each challenge.
