FASEB Illustrates NIH Funding Losses After Sequestration

    Date: April 02, 2013
NIH and related agencies will cut nearly a quarter of their support to biomedical and biological research as sequestration takes effect. The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) has created a two page factsheet that illustrates funding loss estimates state-by-state, and features quotes from leaders in the field warning of the implications of these losses. “I worry desperately this means we will lose a generation of young scientists,” said NIH Director Francis Collins. It is still possible for Congress to bolster Federal support for NIH-funded research. Congressmen McKinley (R-WV) and Markey (D-MA) have called for increasing NIH funding to $32 billion in FY 2014. Ask your representative to sign on to the McKinley-Markey letter right away.
