NIH Seeks Input on Inclusion of Preprints in Grant Applications and Reports

    Date: October 27, 2016

On October 6, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on the inclusion of interim research products and preprints in grant applications and reports as well as known standards for reporting such products. Specifically, NIH asks the research community to provide insights about existing interim research products and how they are used by investigators in different scientific fields. In addition, NIH solicits feedback on potential citation standards for preprints and interim research products as well as ways reviewers might evaluate the inclusion of such items in grant applications. Research products—interim or otherwise—for which NIH policies already exist, such as genomic data sharing, public access, clinical trials, model organisms, invention reporting, and general data sharing, are not covered by this RFI. Comments must be submitted through the RFI website by November 29.
