    A series of studies have recently reported that consumption of supplemental calcium, but not calcium in foods, was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction. In contrast, other studies failed to demonstrate that calcium supplements caused an increased risk of cardiovascular events.
