    New York Times Reports on Web-savvy Scientists Turning to Crowds Online to Finance Projects

    A recent article from the New York Times, “Scientists Turn to Crowds on the Web to Finance Their Projects,” details how many young researchers are turning to the web and social media to find funding for their research projects. The article highlights two young researchers, Jennifer D. Calkins and Jennifer M. Gee, both biologists, who designed quail T-shirts and trading cards to sell online. They raised $4,873, mostly from small donations, which will pay for their travel, food, lab and equipment expenses to study the elegant quail this fall in Mexico.
