ASBMB Report Illustrates the Impact of Sequestration on the Biomedical Research Community

    Date: September 04, 2013

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) has released a new report detailing the impact of the sequestration cuts and the declining investment in federal funding on the research community. The report, “Unlimited Potential, Vanishing Opportunity,” was highlighted in the Huffington Post and features the findings from a survey of more than 3,700 scientists from all 50 states.

According to the report, more than two thirds of survey respondents do not have the funds to expand their research, nearly half have laid off researchers  and more than 50 percent know a colleague who has lost his/her job. Personal stories and quotes from survey respondents are also included in the report. An ASBMB press release is available here. The full report can be downloaded here. A summary of the report is also available in this ASBMB blog post
