NIH Posts FAQs Regarding Proposed NCATS

    Date: January 11, 2011

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Scientific Management Review Board recommended that a new National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) be established at NIH.  NIH Director Francis Collins has stated his intent to pursue this recommendation, with a goal of having the new center fully functional by October 2011 to coincide with the beginning of fiscal year 2012.  NCATS would house a number of clinical and translational research programs, including the Clinical and Translational Science Awards currently managed under the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) and the Cures Acceleration Network, which has been authorized but not yet funded. NIH has established a website to provide up-to-date information on this initiative and to solicit feedback, as well as has posted FAQS regarding the proposed center.
