Contact Your Congressional Representatives Today to Stop Sequestration

    Date: November 07, 2012

The American Society of Bone and Mineral Research and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) calls on all U.S. members to contact their Congressional representatives to demand a stop to the potential $1.2 trillion in U.S. budget cuts known as “sequestration”, currently scheduled to go into effect January 2, 2013.

A recent analysis by FASEB estimates that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will lose $2.8 billion in funding. When testifying before Congress, NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins said this would mean lost funding for 2,300 grants, representing a quarter of the total grants it would award for the year. Email your Senators and Representatives today to urge them to continue – not cut – essential funding for research.  You can use information from FASEB’s new NIH Congressional district and state factsheets, as well as our NSF factsheets in your email messages. Make your voice heard at this critical time!
