THRIVE by ASBMR will deliver individualized mentorship and high-quality professional development to early-career scientists and clinicians who identify as underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral science, and who have research interests in fields related to the mission of the ASBMR.

THRIVE will also educate the broader membership of ASBMR on topics in diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster more accepting and supportive work environments by reducing cultural biases within the workplace.

Scholars enrolled in THRIVE will enter a three-year program that seeks to:

• Promote the success of underrepresented individuals in their home institutions and create leadership opportunities for those individuals within the ASBMR
• Reduce academic hurdles faced by underrepresented scientists/clinicians related to the lack of access, training, and support as well as cultural biases within institutions
• Increase and maintain a more diverse workforce via professional development and 1:1 scientific and leadership mentorship to early-career scientists/clinicians
• Enhance ASBMR’s inclusivity for underrepresented scientists by providing culturally aware courses to society leadership and members

The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research encourages and promotes research in the bone, mineral and musculoskeletal field, works to translate this research into clinical care, and communicates to and connects a worldwide audience within and beyond bone research.

Professional Development and Technical Scientific Training

THRIVE Scholars Will:

• Undergo a 10 month advanced virtual educational and instructional program that includes monthly professional development on topics such as Leadership, Mentorship, Conflict Management, Influencing, and more.
• Receive travel funds to attend an in-person networking function for THRIVE Scholars at the ASBMR Annual Meeting, and to attend the Network of Minority Health Research Investigators (NMRI) meeting at NIH (April 17-19, 2024)
• Be paired with senior ASBMR members for 1:1 mentorship, including the creation of an individual development plan
• Receive up to $5,000 in grant funds to attend third party scientific and technical training of their choice
• Have selection priority for various society leadership positions including committee appointments, journal reviewer training track assignments, and other opportunities
