Established in 2026, the Sevgi Rodan Career Life Balance Award is named in honor of the contributions of Sevgi Rodan, Ph.D. Dr. Sevgi Rodan has made remarkable contributions to bone biology throughout her career and has served as a role model and mentor to hundreds of young scientists in the field. Dr. Rodan expressed her interest in developing a Sevgi Rodan Career Life Balance Award for mothers in the Bone, Mineral, and Musculoskeletal field. Based on the Career-Life Balance Award, initiated in 2022 by the ASBMR's Women's Committee to assist women who balance family and career, particularly in research.
The Sevgi Rodan Career Life Balance Award provides one $15,000 USD grant annually. Funding is intended to support research continuity for women scientists who have recently welcomed a child or are preparing to do so. There is a real need for more support for parents during the period of their life when they are welcoming a baby to their family, especially women who typically play the largest role in pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding/pumping, in the early months. Women scientists could be better supported during the emotional, psychological, and physical challenges of this period of life, making it easier for them to balance parenting and work. Eligible uses include hiring lab personnel, supplementing research activity, or supporting institutional needs. These uses help recipients maintain productivity and career momentum.
